Justin’s goal is to help others live with Patterns at Scale. He founded Patterns at Scale to offer his services and share his talents

Dr. Justin St-Maurice is a certified technology professional and coach, a published author and successful academic, an award-winning educator and an amateur photographer. Throughout his life, he has always been driven towards the study of complex systems. He believes that Patterns at Scale ultimately form the basis of the complex sociotechnical systems that surround us and shape our day to day.

​Senior Technical Product Manager

  • Interviewed customers to understand business problems and validate solutions.

  • Created a generic data integration engine and application processing platform to support unique information products and integrations with institutional customers around the world.

  • Designed and implemented MVPs, with generic ata warehousing patterns and ETL components, with Python and Typescript while leveraging DynamoDb, RDS, SQS, S3, IAM, EC2, Secrets, ParameterStore and the SST IAC framework.

2012-2020

Professor and Program Coordinator, Health Informatics (2012-2019)

  • Managed budgets over $25 million and led a team of 60 full-time professionals.

  • Created detailed human resource plans, including planning for strategic hires and internal resource development, within a complex unionized environment.

  • Maintained service levels and adapted to environmental changes by leading the department to transition to online-only education during the COVID-19 crisis.

  • Leveraged Microsoft Azure to create proof-of-concepts and technical blueprints.

  • Created unique Academic-Private-Public Partnerships to secure employment for students, bring subject matter expertise to the College, and meet industry market needs.

  • Developed and taught new technical curriculum, including courses in business intelligence, programming, databases and information science by engaging in professional development and consulting with industry professionals.

2007-2012

Guelph Family Health Team

​Information Systems Specialist

  • Conceptualized and operationalized the Guelph Family Health Team IT Strategy, including the launch of new technology (portals, EMR systems, etc.) into primary care environments by deploying new technology infrastructure, and providing training and support.

  • Created, sold and product-managed a custom software solution for Family Health Teams throughout the province to track statistics and generate government reports.

2005-2008

The Guelph Computer Shop

Owner and General Manager

  • Created and executed a business plan for a retail computer store and training center in downtown Guelph, generating over $1,000,000 in sales over 2 years.

  • Managed accounts payable, hired, and trained staff, generated policies and procedures and ensured the day-to-day operations of a successful business.
